MAC 12/70 side-by-side shotgun: recommissioning

Complete strip-down, cleaning, fore-end iron recommissioning and fitting of a rubber recoil pad

A MAC side-by-side shotgun in 12/70 gauge, marked by insufficient maintenance. I stripped it completely: trigger guard, triggers, hammers, fore-end, fore-end iron. Complete cleaning of the parts, fore-end iron brought back to condition, then a rubber recoil pad fitted, the first one I ever did.

A MAC (Manufacture d'Armes de Châtellerault) side-by-side hunting shotgun in 12/70 gauge, recommissioned as a personal project. The state of the fore-end iron at disassembly told the story: a gun that had seen little or poor maintenance. Exactly the kind of piece that calls for a complete, methodical, part-by-part recommissioning.

01Strip-down and cleaning

Complete strip-down: trigger guard, triggers, hammers, fore-end, fore-end iron. Every part is cleaned, the fore-end iron is brought back to condition, and the whole action is reassembled into the stock.

02A first: the recoil pad

This job also gave me a first: fitting a rubber recoil pad. Shaping, fitting to the stock profile, sanding the edges for a clean join. I'll say it plainly: it was my first one, and it sits cleanly.
